There are currently two hub's from Wink. The newest version, the Wink Hub 2 was released in October of 2016. One of the biggest and most asked for change to this over the original hub was an ethernet jack. The original hub was only wireless and this presented some challenges with placement, if placed to close to the wireless router it would get that great of a signal. A Bluetooth low energy radio was added as well to improve compatibility with more devices. The Hub 2 also increased processing power and memory to be able to perform more functions locally versus running them on Wink's servers, which is a huge increase in lag time and reliability. Unless you already have a original hub there isn't any reason not to get the Hub 2 over the original, it's better in every way possible. The Hub 2 can be found online for about 100 bucks.
The original Wink hub was released in June of 2014. Wink saw a huge increase in sales after getting onto the shelves of Home Depot, a big change from other smart home products. This hub and it's functionality has come a long way since 2014. When it first started many of the functions were very unreliable. Sometimes it would take 30-60 seconds for lights to trigger when turned on from the mobile app. Years of bug fixing and app improvements have made this a very stable platform. The hub retailed for about 50 dollars but could easily be found free with the purchase of other smart home equipment when it first came out.
